Lola, I started my period last week and I couldn't go swimming. Some of the boys started asking why. I'm so embarrassed - I don't want one of my friends to tell them but the boys keep on asking and one of them nearly spilt it. Will I have to move planet when they find out? Please Help Me!
Chica, getting your period is nothing to be embarrassed about or ashamed of - it's a perfectly natural and normal thing to happen to a young lady! Are you the first of your friends to go through this change, because if you're not your bezzies should really know and understand how much of a private thing it is. Take your friends aside and tell them how you feel - you have every right to keep information like that limited to the circle you've chosen to tell. If your friends still end up spilling the beans, know that although you may get looks from the boys, getting your period is absolutely normal and in time they'll accept that. Read my article 'Period worries'
here and if you need more info check out my book,
It's a Girl Thing. Don't feel alone though, in time, loads of your friends will be going through the same thing! Trust me, chica!
